The Trees Are Falling!

My office complex seems to be having a problem with trees dropping their limbs in the parking lot. It really hasn’t been much of an issue, other than a mere inconvenience, until now. last week, a coworker had a large limb drop on her brand new Honda Accord!

One theory is that the types of trees planted in the parking lot tend to soak up a lot of water on hot days, making the limbs heavy. They don’t appear to have cracks that indicate slow breaks, but rather they have clean breaks that show they drop suddenly and, apparently, without warning.

The estimate she got is around $3,500, unless they need to replace the sunroof, which would raise that amount. The property management representative simply told her to contact her insurance company. Hopefully they can prove negligence as it happens fairly often.

Wow that is just ridiculous! It was on her brand new car too. I would be outraged if that happened. Hmm ho often do these types of things happen? If it were me I would be afraid to park in there, or at least afraid to park near a tree.. of course then the only issue comes in the car over heating. 3,500 is a lot of money for the fix, I hope they proved negligence or its an unfair expense.

From what I understand they have to replace the whole roof, but may be able to reuse the sun roof parts. If not, it will be higher. Of course, her insurance would cover it, but she shouldn’t have to pay the deductible. Unfortunately, it may be one of those “act of god” type things… Our parking lot can be completely full some days, if there are meetings, so, it’s nearly impossible to avoid the trees. Plus, people like to park in the shade when it reaches triple digits.

Oh no… that poor car. It looks really nice but now… :(
… And it’s a Honda Accord too! Those things are expensive. I hope that won’t ever happen to my car… if ever I get one.

I don’t think I mentioned it, but she hadn’t even made the first payment on it yet! I usually try not to park under any trees because I like to avoid the pollen and/or sap, but it can be tempting when it gets hot. Another reason to avoid the trees are the birds! I spent a couple hours washing and waxing my car this weekend and would be pissed if I had to clean bird crap off…
