Everyone Has That One Coworker

Posted by: drivelocity In: At Work

I’ve been at my current job for a few years now and from day one, through today (and beyond, I’m sure), this one coworker has been going through a brutal divorce. I feel for her. Really, I do. But the office is no place for anyone to get into heated arguments over the phone. Some days, it seems, she can’t possibly get any work done, between the phone calls, yelling, going outside for a smoke and, of course, repeating the drama to anybody who will listen.

Yes, she is a drama queen. It’s not entirely her fault, from what I’ve gathered, but often enough she goes out of her way to create drama. Granted, I’ve never been in that sort of situation before, and hopefully I never will. To make things even more pleasant, both remarried within about a year of the divorce, and those relationships didn’t do anything to improve the situation for anyone.

We work in a small office and everyone can hear each other’s conversations. That’s why, if I get a personal call, I’ll take a break and go outside to the parking lot, or to my car. It’s just common courtesy. What she is doing is creating a hostile work environment, but nobody will complain. I guess it’s because we all feel that she has enough drama in her life, and that would only make it worse.

Do you have someone like this in your office?

  • drivelocity: I love the ignorant comments like the last one. They provide no reason, no research and no rationale beyond that of a spoiled 2yr old. It just proves
  • Russell: Domains by Proxy (DBP) is ideal to publish hate sites as long as you don't use your real name. Somebody has done that to me - and DBP don't care.
  • Fred: Whenever I hear the t-mobile ring tone I have to say get more, and that's all I know about the carrier.
