No. 44: President Obama

It’s a new day and with it comes a new President and the start of a whole new era. Through the darkness was a glimmer of light and after yesterday’s Inauguration, we have finally stepped out of that darkness and can feel the sun’s rays warming us as the new-found hope has warmed our hearts. Today, we are greeted by a welcome sight. Our 44th President of these United States of America, Barack H. Obama.

No more feeling as though we are living a real-life version of a suspense movie with an evil mastermind, bald, dressed in black, sitting in a wheelchair, plotting our demise. By the way, did you see Dick Cheney at the Inauguration?

One of the most moving parts of the Inauguration yesterday was the size of the crowd, estimated to be between 1.5 and 4 million people in attendance. Simply amazing. I wish I could have been there, aside from the sub-freezing temperatures!

And, perhaps the second most touching sight of the day was when the Bush clan boarded the Marine 1 helicopter and lifted off, while Barack and Michelle Obama and Joe and Jill Biden looked on. I enjoyed Biden’s flippant salute as if to say, now GTFO!

So, here we are. The day after the big day. The Bush Administration has been escorted off the premisis and the Obamas woke up in their new home. I look forward to seeing what’s next for President Obama, now that he’s in the Oval Office.

    I mean – really. Wow.

But, what I don’t get? How could estimates of attendance at the inaugural swearing in be off by up to 2.5 million people?

Apparently they decided beforehand not to count people in attendance. Some sources estimate 1.5, some around 2 and a couple up to 4 million…

It’s nice to have a fresh start. With the massive media coverage and 3 cable news outlets…8 years is a long time to cover one person.

Best wishes to new president. I like changes. it is very joyful for me to see Obama in a new role. May he can achieve all success which Mr. bush was disabled to achieve.

Gennaro, I was just thinking about how nice it is to not have to dread the next press conference or speech because we were destined to lose more of our rights and/or safety. I really is nice!

Ebikes, He’s already started to reverse some of the damage. Because of possible filibusters, we may not see all the changes we want, but at least he’s trying and we have hope.

Great post. It’ll be interesting to see how he does over the next four years and people’s views of him at the next election.

Ben, It’s one of those things where we won’t see if it works until it does. I just know that if McCain/Palin won, we wouldn’t see the same stimulus efforts and there would be more tax breaks for the rich.

Shelly, Thank you. While Obama may have lost some points in the polls, the GOP is still much much lower. Unfortunately, I think the vocal minority is actually harming positive changes he’s trying to make, whether it be by blocking or concessions.
