Using Twitter to Propose Marriage?

I guess it was bound to happen. People using technology to propose marriage is nothing new. This person used Freelance Switch to propose. This couple have already gotten married after a Twitter proposal. Recently another guy proposed on Twitter and has a new fiance.

Here is the proposal to and acceptance by Max Kiesler and Emily Chang, two well known web designer/developers:

Maybe I’m old fashioned, but I think a proposal should be more personal and better thought out. I can only think that this will be something thelse people may regret later on in life. I understand that some women don’t want a big deal made, or may think of it as a mere formality, but what is the reasoning behind not doing this face to face? Even over the phone would be better than Twitter.

What do you think? Romantic? Regretable?

Shouldn’t a marriage proposal be done in person? I could be an old fashioned but I still love the novelty of Twitter proposal. I don’t think the other half of mine would have ever agreed doing it this way.

Thanks for the comment Yan! I think this might be worse than a text message breakup…

You think that’s crazy? I ran a quick tweetscan for marriage proposals on twitter and cam back with pages of tweets from just the last 48hrs…

You can see the running feed @imarriage twitter or http://www.marriagetweets.com.

    I was amazed.

He waited FIFTEEN years to ask her to marry him, and he couldn’t even ask her in person? My goodness. Thanks for sharing, this is hilarious.

Marc, Thanks for stopping by and letting me know about that… incredible!

Diana, Great to see you here! I’m guessing that, if either one didn’t leave after 14 years of waiting, marriage probably isn’t very high on their list of priorities…

Tradition is very important to many people, but some people just are not traditional and avoid convention at all costs. I say how one gets engaged should be up to the person proposing. My 2 cents,

    Cheers,
