Send SMS from GMail!

Google has just introduced a new way to send text messages to cell phones using GMail‘s chat feature. Simply go to “Settings” in the top menu, then click on the “Labs” tab, scroll down until you find “Text Messaging (SMS) in Chat” and click the Enable radio button. Once you have it enabled, go back to your Inbox and find the Chat box on the left sidebar. Type in a US mobile phone number and click “Send SMS” in the box that drops down. A little window will appear and you can type your message, but please note that SMS charges will apply to the recipient every time you hit enter.

Don’t want to receive SMS messages via GMail? Once someone sends you a text message, you will receive another text message from Google with instructions to opt-out of the service.  The instructions read, “___@gmail.com sent you an SMS from Gmail. You can send a reply to this msg, or send STOP to opt out, HELP for more info. The number the messages are delivered from is +14062050415.
