So Long Adam, the Ace Man, Carolla!

Posted by: drivelocity In: Misc Drivel

It looks like Adam Carolla, of Loveline, The Man Show and Crank Yankers fame, is leaving terrestrial radio. Well, actually, he may be being forced out as the station is being turned into another Top 40 cesspool. I’ve been a pretty big fan of his for quite some time, but since I got SIRIUS satellite radio, I haven’t listened to much on the FM dial. Unfortunately, now there’s going to be nothing worth switching to when Howard Stern is a rerun, which is fairly often.

Apparently, he will be doing a free podcast instead of his morning talk show. What I really wish this departure from radio meant was that Top Gear America, on which he was to be a host, was going to be aired on American TV. Some sources claim that the series is still in the works, while Jalopnik states that NBC has cut the show because of Knight Rider’s failure. I hope that the BBC is able to sell it to another outlet. If Top Gear America can find the light of day it will likely include Adam Carolla, professional race car driver Tanner Foust and HGTV home improvement star Eric Stromer.

Some fans may remember this gem from a few years ago where he hung up on Ann Coulter and called her a bitch. Few people, if any, have the balls to do that. Check it out, it’s priceless!

I like Adam but I hope he doesn’t host an American Top Gear, actually I hope there is no American version. You can’t come close to the original most especially with the cast they have in mind.

I agree that nothing will beat the original and I would only want a Top Gear America if it can come close. I think Clarkson, Hammond & Captain Slow slamming Americans gets old, but I do find it funny – there are only two episodes that I can think of where they come to the U.S. On one hand I think it would be great if they could do something different and unique, but on the other hand I realize that may destroy what makes Top Gear so great.

Adam Corolla has a very sarcastic sense of humor, so I could see him as opposed to Jay Leno who was rumored to be in the running and obviously knows more about cars. I don’t know about the others, Faust & Stromer. Having a race car driver would be good, but only if he has personality. I know nothing about him. Stromer, w/out the automotive experience & humor, seems like he’s there to add a pretty face.

The good thing about a spin off is that it shouldn’t have any effect on the original. So, even if it does bomb, we can still catch the goods on BBC America.
