Bob Swift of Swift Dodge Needs a Swift Kick in the Pants

I understand that car dealers are probably under a lot of stress right now, especially those trying to sell American vehicles. Unfortunately, some of them may have gone off the deep end. Take Bob Swift, owner of Swift Dodge on Arden Way in Sacramento:

“People are reluctant to buy our cars because of the perception that maybe the quality isn’t what it should be,” Swift said. “Therefore, they’re going to buy Japanese, they’re going to buy a German car, forgetting that 50 years ago, we had to bomb those people and kill them by the thousands to keep them from overtaking our country.”

Are you serious? Way to represent Sacramento… Japlopnik.com, a well known automotive blog, gives him “the most xenophobic car dealer award.” Apparently, as some commenters pointed out, Mr. Swift has forgotten that many American cars are made in Mexico. I would propose that the Mexican-American War is just as relevant as WWI or WWII to his theory.

i am very sorry for what my grandfather(bob swift) said he was so lost from all the stress and sadly took his own life in november, not long after he made this insulting statement…

As my niece Megan stated, my father Bob Swift took his own life in October of 2009. Sadly from what I was told by automotive insiders, many other car dealers had made the same choice.

Sadly, the words he put together at this time were inappropriate.

This does not define the man who said them. To look at those he worked with over his long career, show that this was not the heart of this man.

Though I know that I have now power to remove this from public access, I could only hope that people remember that many of us have said things that we shouldn’t have. With today’s technology those comments are public when they perhaps shouldn’t be.

Please don’t let this be what people see when they try to find information on a lost individual.

My you rest in peace, Dad.

    Your daughter Windigo
